Tenth Anniversary Spendor.......

Over ten years ago John and I made a decision while we were engaged to make a quilt for ourselves for that day that we would get married and be able to share it together.  It was an idea that was formed in a quilting store in New Bern, North Carolina which was also the same day John proposed to me.

We began right away and got quite far,e specially for two people that had no clue how to make a quilt and had never done anything like it before.  John being the creative mind that he is, decided that a regular patchwork quilt wouldn't be fancy enough for us and so we came up with a more intricate design for the center of the quilt.  Well the quilt didn't end up occupying enough of our time and it got laid to rest for a couple of years.

I picked it back up while we were living in Utah and completed most of the front.  But it slept again....its's funny how having 4 kids and a life can get in the way of things like that...well for me at least anyway.

A year ago, while still living at the farm i had this great idea that for our 9th anniversary i should secretly complete the quilt for John.  I worked on it....but again it got put down for various reasons.

A week before this Christmas, which was also a week after our 10th anniversary, i decided that nothing was going to stop me for finishing this quilt for him and i finished it all in a matter of two days!  Sometimes we just need to buckle down and finish....how many other things are there like that in our lives?

Nothing was more worthwhile than the look on John's face as he opened it up on Christmas day.  It was a sweet moment for both of us and although i don't plan on taking ten years to do any other quilt, it is symbolic of the journey we have taken thus far....and the journey we will continue on for all eternity.  Line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little.  (2 Nephi 28:30) We grow in bits and pieces and we are the ones that decide how joyful it will be along the way until we have created a master piece.  The quilt itself is very symbolic and the fabric and design were carefully picked and created.  I am glad....it is done....more journeys to be had......a bit at a time.......

Each square is some sort of design having to do with a sun, moon, or stars theme.  There are four shades of yellow and four shades of blue
which were our wedding colors.
